Targeted at tourists have become increasingly demanding on the cruise ships, Chongqing PMB and Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Quality Supervision has drawn up standards for the evaluation of river cruise ships. The core content of the standard is improving the cruise grade, cancelling fourth-class cabins and two-star cruise ships.
At present, Chongqing Municipal Bureau Supervision of Quality has handed the evaluation standard, which has been approved by the the Panel of Experts in Chongqing, to the TSG. Once approved, the standard will become the only river cruise ships assessment criteria in China.
In 2004, Chongqing Municipal Transport Commission assessed 54 cruise ships as star-rated cruise ships. However, since 2005, two-star cruise ships' hardware and software has been getting worse. This has affected the overall image of the Three Gorges tourism.
PMB revealed that, after this reshuffle, the number of 3-star and 4-star cruises which can be reserved is only 47. Among them, There will be 15 four-star cruise ships and 32 three-star ones.
PMB said that in order to improve the cruise grade, all fourth-class cabins are to cancelled in the ship, leaving only first, second, and third-class. Third-class cabins will only hold six individuals, while the second-class cabins only allows four and first-class cabins two. Also, the first-class cabins must contain a reception room with double beds. At the same time, each class is required to have independent bathroom.
These are required so that competitive differentiation can be achieved between ships and highways, separating passengers with tourists by different means of transport.
